Freedom Exteriors runs out of 1145 Summit Ave in Mahtomedi, a drive of about 17 minutes to Woodbury on Interstate 694. That keeps storm inspections here on a schedule of days rather than weeks, and the people who quote the roof are the people who install it.
Woodbury is named in the National Weather Service write up of June 19, 2026: half dollar sized hail fell in Woodbury that afternoon, while stones over two inches came down in northern St Paul. It fits the longer record. NOAA's Storm Events Database logs 135 hail events and 51 thunderstorm wind events within 15 miles of Woodbury from 2020 through 2024, with stones up to 3 inches, and 108 of those hail events came in 2022 alone. Architectural shingles can take a bruise from hail that size without showing anything you would notice from the driveway.
Census estimates put the median Woodbury home at 1997, and 86 percent of the city's housing units went up in 1980 or later: 46.9 percent in the 1980s and 1990s and 39.2 percent since 2000. The subdivision tells us more than the street name does, from Woodbury Heights, where suburban building in the city started in 1955, out to the newer streets around Colby, Carver, Powers and Wilmes lakes.
Woodbury issues permits for roof, siding and window work over the counter or by mail with a check for the fee, and the fee is figured from the value of materials and labor or the number of squares. On a house built before 1978, a contractor who is not lead certified also has to file the city's Lead Supplement Form. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job.
